What could be better than a unicorn?

For me, it was a photo session with an elusive Longsnout Seahorse beneath the waves in Bonaire. You can imagine the excitement of the group when our dive guide spotted this tiger-striped gem

Everyone wanted a photograph! I stayed back, waiting patiently, hoping he would not shy away before it was my turn.  At last, I slowly approached, looking into his eyes as though communicating my good intentions. He seemed at ease, so I looked through my camera and framed my shot. The photo session was over, and I continued to watch him frolic among the shimmering sea kelp as if in an enchanting fairy tale.

This is available as a limited edition print in metal or acrylic ready to hang in your home or office.

Longsnout Seahorses

Longsnout Seahorses despite being poor swimmers, they have excellent survival tactics with camouflaged bodies and sturdy armor. They anchor themselves with their versatile tails to hide among seagrasses and corals, preying on tiny plankton. During their reproductive cycle the male longsnout carries the eggs in his pouch until they are ready to be released into the water column.

These enchanting creatures face peril from overfishing due to their popularity in traditional medicine and aquariums. Scientists urge conservation efforts to safeguard these unique seahorses and their ecosystems.

Bonaire

Bonaire is an island in the Caribbean that is part of the Leeward Antilles and is a special municipality of the Netherlands. Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao form the ABC islands, 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela. Unlike much of the Caribbean region, the ABC islands are outside of the hurricane belt.

Bonaire is a popular snorkeling and scuba diving destination because of its multiple shore diving sites and easy access to the island's fringing reef system. The entire coastline was designated a marine sanctuary in 1979, an effort to preserve and protect the delicate coral reef and the marine life that depends on it.
